Solapur: A meeting of Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation group held at Mangalwedha town in Solapur district has decided to take up the issue of lack of toilets for women in the town.

The meeting was presided over by group leader Kavita Khadtare-Gawali.

The women who attended the meeting have decided to seek improvements in the conditions of toilets for women in various offices. It was decided to submit memorandums to the respective offices to seek steps to solve the problems faced by women.

The group’s president Kavita Khadtare-Gawali commended the initiative of Solapur Zilla Parishad President Dr Nishigandha Mali. The zilla parishad president has said that she will try her best to end the custom of open defecation in the district and will work to ensure construction of toilets. Khadtare-Gawali said that Mali’s resolve needed to be strongly defended. Her suggestion was unanimously supported at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Rohini Pawar said that the condition of women’s toilets was very bad in rural as well as urban areas. Tanishka members will make efforts to see that the benefits of the government’s Nirmal Gram scheme reach all sections of society.

A memorandum was also submitted, pointing out there were no toilets for women at various government offices in Mangalwedha town. This caused hardships for women coming to the town from other areas, the memorandum said.

The meeting has demanded that the heads of various government offices take steps to construct toilets especially for women.
The meeting has also demanded drinking water facility for people visiting various banks.

ZP chief’s initiative lauded

The group’s president Kavita Khadtare-Gawali commended the initiative of Solapur Zilla Parishad President Dr Nishigandha Mali. Mali has said she will try her level best to end the custom of open defecation in the district and will work towards construction of toilets.
