Pune: Yewalewadi’s percolating lake is being freed from the sludge and Tanishka Foundation has played a vital role in this initiative. Today, this lake is fully filled with water and provides great relief to the villagers. They now get adequate water supply through the well. Here is the small success story of shared efforts and assistance offered by Tanishka Foundation to resolve the water scarcity
problem of Yewalewadi.

This initiative was taken ahead under the able guidance of Ms. Ratnmala Kalbhor, Tanishka Woman Forum’s group leader and Dasharath Kalbhor, District Council member. JCB and Poclain Machinery made the task easy. After a long time, the muddy lake has now breathed clean
air.

Yewalewadi gets the water supply from the well adjacent to lake. But this water supply was adequate only for seven to eight months! Now, as the sludge is removed, the water storage capacity of this lake has fairly increased, which would facilitate adequate water supply throughout the year, avoiding any water scarcity in the village.

Tanishka group leaders Ratnamala Kalbhor, Chhaya Kamthe, Sukeshini Kalbhor, Rubina Sayyad, Sharda Shinde, Geetanjali Khawale, Rupali Kamthe, Komal Shinde, Yogita Meshram, Manorama Dhudwaar jointly scheduled a meeting to discuss this issue. A well-known entrepreneur and District Council Member Dasharath Kalbhor promised his total assistance to the Tanishka members to take this work forward.

Finally, the dream has come true. Within a month, the lake is free from sludge and now using its complete capacity to store the rain water. Sufficient rains and adequate storage in the lake have made the villagers happy. The women in Yewalewadi have expressed their sincere gratitude towards Tanishka’s initiative.
