Ahmednagar: Abhijit Pawar, managing director, Sakal Media Group said that women’s dignity was increasingly under threat and this was harming women the most in the country today.

Pawar was being interviewed during the first anniversary celebrations of Satyamev Jayate, organised in Ahmednagar by NGO Snehalaya.
According to Pawar, if women’s dignity was protected, there would be a reduction in these problems. He said that the Sakal Media Group’s recently launched Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation was a step in this direction. Pawar also said that the group had also launched the ‘Delivering Maharashtra’ campaign to free Maharashtra from drought.

Pawar said, “Satyamev Jayate had reached the hearts of the viewers. The programme had made people shed tears of compassion for others. Tears in the eyes of a mother are very powerful. Satyamev Jayate brought about this kind of a change.”

According to Pawar, Sakal had always supported initiatives undertaken by social organisations. “Organisations working in the social field get support from the society along with financial aid, but they lack skilled manpower and management required to run the organization. The Sakal Media Group has decided to take the lead in providing social organisations with assistance in finding this manpower, skill and management support,” Pawar said.

Pawar appreciated the work by Snehalaya. According to him, they had succeeded in changing the way the society looked at commercial sex workers and their children. “Every social cause is faced by challenges. But while working for the benefit of the society, these problems do not appear as challenges. Ultimately, we are working with Satyamev Jayate (Truth Always Prevails) in our minds,” Pawar said.

Speaking about the workshop organised by Snehalaya, Pawar emphasised the need for all to come together and work unitedly. “Sakal will take the lead towards organising such workshops in the future,” he said. Felicitating parents who had adopted children from Snehalaya, Pawar said that we should accept society in a similar manner. “We should look at society as a part of our family. Only then, we can live the phrase, ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the whole world is one family) in the true sense,” he said.

Pawar said that the Sakal Media Group was making vital suggestions to the state government with regard to the problem of water scarcity in Maharashtra. “We invited experts from all over the state for a water conclave in Mumbai recently to discuss the issue and suggest solutions. This will result in a programme to achieve positive results in the future,” Pawar said.
