
Pune: It is true display of women power at the Sir Parshurambhau (SP) College in the city, as all the important office bearers, right from the officiating principal to the four vice-principals and the supervisors are women.
Moreover, 39 women are teaching in the senior college, out of the total strength of 96. In the ‘non-grant’ category — 13 out of 17 teachers are women. When it comes to the junior college Vocational (biofocal) Department, there are four people, who manage this department — all women. There are 36 women in the junior college teaching staff, where the total strength is 67.
While Dr Padmaja Ghorpade is the officiating principal, Dr Anuradha Kulkarni leads the science stream as vice-principal, Prof Veena Vishwanath heads the arts stream as vice principal and Dr Chaya Abnave is the vice-principal of the commerce section. Surekha Dange is the vice-principal of the junior college.
Moreover, the college accountant and the librarian are also women. The secretary of the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali is also a woman. All the three supervisors of the arts, commerce and science faculty are also women.
“All the women are occupying crucial executive positions only due to their work. We are supported by the men, who work in our college. This Women’s Day is indeed special for all of us,” said officiating Principal Dr Ghorpade.
One of the faculty members, Dr Kalpana Joshi, narrated how Women’s Day has been celebrated in the college over the years. On Saturday, a special event was organised to celebrate International Women’s Day at the SP College campus. Social activist and labour union leader Mukta Manohar was the chief guest at the function.
