Tanishka’s noble gesture: Educational CDs for visually challenged


Akurdi, Pune: In a noble gesture, the Sakal Media Group’s Tanishka Foundation from Sector 24 in Nigdi-Pradhikaran has brought out educational CDs for visually challenged students, of the First Year Bachelor of Arts course.

The visually challenged students from FYBA face a lot of hardships, in the absence of any text-books in the Braille script. When the Tanishka group learnt about the problem, its members came forward to lend a helping hand. The group-in-charge Prof Dr Shilpagauri Ganpule, as also members Madhura Kulkarni, Sunita Kulkarni, Madhura Shivapurkar, Jyoti Sorkhade, Vandana Sorkhade, Kiran Lakhe, Dhanashree Lele, Dr Vandana Pimple, Pratibha Kulkarni, Sonali Tendulkar and Sneha Randive recorded and edited the course material, to develop the CDs.

The CDs were formally released by visually challenged students Varsha Gaikar, Arti Khairnar, Poonam Chitalkar, Mahesh Gaikwad, and Abhiman Chormale at a small function at the Pune Zilla Shikshan Mandal’s Ramkrishna More college.

The Mandal’s deputy secretary P E Kulkarni, Principal Dr Nitin Ghorpade, the chairman of the Mamta Welfare Centre for Orphans, Tushar Kamble, and Devdas Raikar of Sant Mounibaba Bal Ashram were among those present at the event.
