
Pune: Six thousand elected women representatives across Maharashtra will assemble in Mumbai on March 21 and 22 for the Tanishka Foundation ’s women’s dignity workshops launched by Sakal’s Saam Marathi channel.
This two-day event is a follow-up of the Tanishka Stree Pratishtha Abhiyan event held in Mumbai on January 31, 2013, which saw 600 elected women representatives from across the State congregating at the Mumbai University to discuss the subject of women’s dignity.
The January 31 event was attended by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, chairman, Sakal Media Group Pratap Pawar, managing director, Sakal Media Group Abhijit Pawar, Ayurvedacharya Dr Balaji Tambe, vice chancellor, Mumbai University Rajan Velukar, State Home Minister, R R Patil, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde, NCP MP Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe among others.
Additionally, elected women representatives posed questions directly to the Chief Minister and Home Minister through a video conferencing facility organised at Sakal offices across the State.
Key features of the Tanishka women’s Dignity forums
- The Tanishka Foundation is a platform for women in Maharashtra.
- This movement is expected to reach 5.5 crore women, who constitute 50 pc of the State’s population.
- Elected women representatives are stage one of this process.
- In the Mumbai workshops, they will articulate their issues, expectations and the need for women’s dignity.
- The workshops will result in an action plan.
- Working women, homemakers, professionals, entrepreneurs and young women will also participate in the Tanishka women’s dignity forums.
- The Mumbai workshops are a beginning for a healthy society that will safeguard the dignity of women, create a positive environment and strengthen the family system.
Tanishka women’s dignity workshops
- The Tanishka Foundation workshops will be held at the P J Hindu Gymkhana, Marine Lines, Mumbai between 12 noon and 6 pm.
- The March 21 workshop is for women representatives from Pune, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Akola, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Wardha, Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.
- The March 22 workshop is for women from Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Osmanabad, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli.
