Tanishka helps ease Mundhwa’s water issues

PUNE: The Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation’s local wing raised the issue of inadequate water being supplied to Mundhwa, following which Mayor Chanchala Kodre said that the civic administration has already taken steps to improve water supply in the area.

The issue of inadequate water has been plaguing residents since one of the main pipelines that runs through the area has not been made operational.

On Monday, members of the group, led by Sukanya Gaikwad, inspected the five-year-old pipeline, which had been built since water was leaking through the old damaged pipeline.
During the inspection, it was found that the pipeline was not made operational due to pending road construction work.

Notably, the forum had earlier submitted a memorandum to Kodre, who then instructed officials from the water supply department to complete pending works at the earliest.

However, no concrete action was taken and local residents alleged that civic officials were using dilatory tactics.
Meanwhile, Cantonment Water Supply Department Deputy Engineer Rajendra Tambe said that work on the pipeline was delayed due to the ban on digging during the monsoon. He said that the department has now received permission to dig the road and the work has already commenced in Mundhwa Gaothan. He added that there were some difficulties in tracing the location of the old pipeline, but the work will be completed within a week.
