Jejuri shows the way to save water; Tap fitting drive in town

JEJURI: The Jejuri municipal councilhas launched a massive water-tap fitting drive in the town, in orderto curb water wastage.

Earlier, women councilors and membersof the ‘Tanishka Foundation For Women’s Dignity’ had undertaken a‘save water’ campaign in Lavthaleshwar area, to deliver themessage of water conservation.

Jejuri receives its water from theMandki water works. The supply has turned erratic because of severewater shortage, and is at a low pressure in several areas. Moreover,water is now supplied after every two days. The council has appealedto the people to use water economically. However, in the absence oftaps, rampant wastage of water is a common sight here. Residentspaid no heed to the council’s calls for fitting the taps all theseyears.

The council’s initiative is nowexpected to stop water wastage and improve the supply. The work onfitting of the taps was launched in Lavthaleshwar area recently. Thechairman of the council’s water supply section, Ganesh Aglave,councillors and members of the ‘Tanishka’ Forum, SurekhaSonavane, Dnyaneshwari Barbhai, Sonali More, Sadhana Deedbhai,Sadhana Darekar, Shobhana Jagtap, Sangeeta Joshi and SurekhaMalvadkar, council members Hemant Sonavane, and Satyavan Ubale, asalso Bhaguji Patil of water supply section were present on theoccasion.

Women councilors and ‘Tanishka’members also undertook an awareness campaign to deliver the messageof ‘save water.’ Residents in Lavthaleshwar area said that thefitting of the taps and valves have ensured a regular water supply.

Aglave said that the council would sooncomplete the fitting of over 2000 taps. The civic body has alsowarned against the installation of pumps to draw more water, as itdisrupts the water supply in other areas. If found, these pumps wouldbe confiscated, the council has warned.
