
Ahmednagar: Known as an ideal village in the State, Jakhangaon, which is located on the border of the famous Hivre-bazaar in Ahmednagar district, added yet another feather to its cap.
The village became the third village of Maharashtra to have all its women join as members of the Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation.
As members of the forum, the women have joined hands to improve the health of the residents of Jakhangaon. The entire village has thus become a Tanishka village.
The village witnessed a unique ceremony, in which all the women, led by Dr Sunil Gandhe, joined in to become members of Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation. Registration was being done in the last one week followed by a celebration held on Monday.
After Taradgaon and Dhonda-pargaon, Jakhangaon became the third village in Ahmednagar district to achieve this feat. Women have decided to jointly work towards health, education and agriculture in the village. The ceremony was attended by sarpanch Mainatai Angre, deputy sarpanch BR Kardil, district surgeon D Ravindra Niturkar, Assistant Commissioner FDA, Dr Nitin Devre, Deputy District Collector Gorakshnath Gadilkar, Police Superintendent Dr Anita Jamadar and Bal Bothe, resident editor of Sakal.
Appreciating the initiative launched by Sakal, dignitaries emphasised the need to take this activity to all villages. All officers promised to solve issues and problems raised by members of the Tanishka Foundation . Bothe informed that Tanishka plans to undertake major activities in each of the tehsils, where a campaign will be launched to get entire villages to join the activity.
Dr Gandhe said, “Overall health of the village can improve only if care is provided to villages, cattle and the greenery. Hence, Jakhangaon has undertaken a unique health activity under the Tanishka Foundation ”.
