PUNE: Thanks to efforts by members of the Tanishka Women’s Dignity Foundation, residents of Mokatenagar on Paud Road do not have to worry about the garbage piling up endlessly in their area anymore.
Following repeated requests by Tanishka members, the civic body’s Health Department has provided vehicles for door-to-door collection of garbage.
Health inspector Ganesh Khirid personally ensured that garbage collection vans were made available in the area starting Tuesday. Women of the area heaved a sigh of relief as Tanishka members got a long-pending issue solved so quickly.
The Tanishka group started its activities in Mokatenagar since October 26 under the leadership of Sarika Kature.
They started with getting the playground in the area repaired in order to make it playable.
Inspired by this, another group of Tanishka members was formed in the same area. At present, members of both the groups are striving to solve problems faced by local residents.
A memorandum of demands was handed over to the Health Department by 40 members including Urmila Mohol, Savita Amle, Kalpana Mazire, Manali Chavan, Vijaya Memane, Vanita Tangde, Padma Dalvi and Savita Sonawane. This was followed by the Health Department taking immediate action and providing garbage collection facilities in the area.
