Pune: The NGOs resolved to get maximum voting in Tanishka elections by raising awareness about the importance of these elections and motivating a large number of people to walk towards polling booth and cast their votes. These social sector organizations plan to reach maximum people through existing social networks like women’s self help groups, youth groups, social gatherings, volunteers at Ganesh pandals etc.
Tanishka elections are scheduled to take place on October 15t, Saturday. A meeting was organized in Sakal office with reference to this. Social and non-governmental organizations registered their presence for this meeting. Among those present for the meeting were Sheetal Pawar from Habitat Forum, Akshata Karpe, Preet Manjusha, Pradnya Molawade from ‘Samyak; Rahul Suryawanshi, Nivrutti Jadhav from Akhil Mhasoba Utsav Mandai trust, Sharan Khandu, Ravi Gaikwad from ‘Seher’, Shyam Gaikwad, Nilesh Gaikwad, Abhijit Thorat, Bhimrao Kamble, Govind Patanekar, Dhammapal Kamble from ‘Bhim Chhava’, Sujit Yadav representing Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar library, Ad. Rohan shetty, Yogiraj pawar, from ‘youth’, social workers Sandhya Bomanna, Vimal Modave and so on.
“The entire city has a dense network of non-governmental and social organizations. We will put this network to use to ensure that maximum voting takes place.We will brief our volunteers about Tanishka and ask them to further brief women and even men about Tanishka elections”, said these representatives of social and non-governmental organizations.
Organizations like Seher’, ‘Bhim Chhava’, Dr. Ambedkar library specialize in working in hutment areas. Their representatives mentioned that these hutment dwellers would also be told about Tanishka elections. They have also planned to make sure that maximum number of womenfolk reaches the polling booths in order to cast their votes. Groups of youngsters are going to make efforts to do this. Use of social media like WhatsApp and Facebook is also planned to create awareness amongst young women about Tanishka elections.
