In the newly established Nagar Panchayat of Gadchiroli, Mrs. Prajakta Pedapallivar was elected as the Mayor for the first time. Mrs. Pedapallivar is a member of Sakal Media Group’s Tanishka Foundation who was elected unopposed in the elections held on 26th November at the Nagar Panchayat Bhavan. The result of this election was historical as all the 17 councillors of the house voted for her. Amongst the votes that she received, 9 votes were from the BJP, 5 from NCP, and 3 votes were from independent councillors.

Mrs Pedapallivar was introduced to politics by her husband who was also a former Gram Panchayat Asistant Ombudsman. The Pedapallivar family has excellent ties with all political parties and the Mayor herself is an active member of Aheri Tanishka Foundation. A teacher by profession, Mrs. Pedapallivar is highly educated and has done a lot of social work in the region. She will work under the guidance of Mr Raje Ambarishrao Atram, Minister of Tribal Development of Maharashtra who is also Gadchiroli’s Guardian Minister. In her speech she said, “I will strive towards making Aheri a clean and beautiful town and will work with full justice and not distinguish between any party and opposition.”

The work she performed while working with Tanishka will definitely help her in running the administration.
