The Sakal Media Group (SMG) will be contributing a sum of Rs 2 crore to help Pune win the ‘Smart City’ contest. The initiative taken up by the Sakal Media Group and Delivering Change Foundation (DCF) will help the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to ensure that city ranks first in the Smart City contest. The funds will be used to purchase smartphones for members of the Tanishka Foundation, who are assisting the PMC in carrying out a survey and collecting feedback from city residents on what projects need to be taken up to develop Pune into a Smart City. The use of smartphones will enable Tanishka members to build a strong network to reach out to Puneites.
The ‘Pune No. 1’ initiative has been set up to ensure that Pune, which has set a benchmark across various sectors and has performed revolutionary work for society, does not fall behind in the Smart City contest. People’s participation in the Smart City contest is important to win it. The suggestions of every resident of Pune will be counted in the contest, as it is an important criterion set by the Union government. This is why the Sakal Media Group and DCF have taken a decision of opting for smartphones to enable quick communication with the city residents. As per the plans, one member of the Tanishka Foundation from each polling booth in Pune will get a smartphone and be in touch with 250 families.
This will ensure total connect within the entire city and a people-to-people connect, which is the core feature of a ‘Smart City’. The smartphones will be loaded with the state-of-the-art software. If ‘Pune No. 1’ becomes a movement like ‘Pune Bus Day’ organised by the Sakal Media Group, nothing can stop Pune from coming out with flying colours in the Smart City contest.
